Are you looking for a light book on girly camping? Let’s Get Primative is a good read for girly girls from the city. The author understands what it is for girls to go into the wild. Heather Menicucci talks about the basic camping techniques as well as recipes, how-to glam, and crafty projects. She has a humerous take on camping and I enjoyed it thoroughly!

I LOVE this tent because of one main reason: easy set up! REI’s Half Dome 2 tent is, by far, the easiest tent to set up and break down. It takes 2 minutes to set up the tent entirely! It has a total of 3 poles that basically put themselves together. It’s features are 2 side door panels, storage pockets, vents, waterproof floor, and rainfly built for 2 people. It’s super lightweight- perfect for backpacking. Best part of all- the tent actually fits back into the bag it came in! For $189.00 you can’t get a better qualtiy tent! If you want for room, check out the Half Dome 2 Plus tent- 10 inches longer and 4 inches wider! Check out my instructional video blog or click the video below!

Setting Up Camp…

Some would say the best part about camping is setting up- I say it’s the entire process but everyone has their opinions! Here are a few things I have learned while camping:

1.) When you arrive at camp, check out all your surroundings. Make sure you aren’t camping RIGHT NEXT to the other campers. It’s like when you go to the beach. You are sitting in your chair, reading Hunger Games, taking a sip of your iced tea when all of a sudden a whole group of people sit right next to you. You think, “There is a whole entire stretch of beach- probably miles- why does MY spot look the best?” Continue reading →

Eton Scopion Hand Crank Weather Radio

We just recently purchased this weather radio from REI. THe Eton Scorpion Weather Radio is AMAZING on so many levels! First off, we get NO service where we go and this found a few good stations that came in clear. We were happy to get a range of music that came in- country, hip hop, oldies, rock- it was perfect! It is solar powered and has a hand crank if it runs out of power. Need to charge your cell phone? Continue reading →

This weekend we took a trip to our usual spot in the Angeles Mountains. We always camp near a river and at sundown you can find us making dinner and cracking beers but my boyfriend got an inkling to dig some dirt and pan for gold. I took my camp chair and headed right down to river to read “Babes in the Woods”- and instructional book for well… babes in the woods. A beginner would find all sorts of useful tips!

All of a sudden I see a swarm of dragonflies hovering over the water and this makes me extremely uncomfortable! I am NOT a fan of bugs! Continue reading →

I wasn’t sure where to fit this “Beauty Prep” in so here it is- just a few tips on prepping for your camping trip!

1.) I always take a shower before I go. You are gone for at least a day or two- and in the dirt! Trust me- you will be happy you washed you hair, shaved your legs, and did everything it is you do in the shower!

2.) I know this is anti-camping code but this is a GirlyCamping.com… I always curl my hair before I go. Now I don’t bring my curling iron with me!! I just curl it before I leave on my trip! I curl my hair everyday because its fine and makes it look thicker! When my hair is curled and I sleep on it, it tends to look fuller and more of a “ready” look in the morning. Continue reading →

A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I decided to be very adventurous and hike at night! We were very skeptical and the idea of it was a little crazy but we frequented this area many times and thought to live a little! We arrived in the Angeles National Forrest (we LOVE camping here) at 8:30 PM- just when the sun was setting. After piling on our 40 pound packs, we stated walking along the trail we walked down many times. We passed our usual spot about half a mile down and everything after that was new to us!
