This weekend we headed away from the Super Bowl chaos and went out to enjoy some peace, quiet, and gold panning! As if its no surprise, we camped in the Angeles National Forest in the San Gabriel mountains (which recently had a fire but thank God its ok!) and we camped at new location to pan for some color! It was the perfect weekend getaway! I had a little bit of trouble at first… I shattered a wine bottle within the first 20 yards of hiking down to our spot, I lost my shoes at night in the river, and I forgot our food we bought at REI! Good thing we have positive attitudes while doing what we love! My boyfriend let me drink some of beer to make up for my wine breaking, I found my shoes the next day down river, and we always have extra food in our pack from the trip before so we didn’t starve- and the boys found a little bit of gold! All in all- it was a great trip! We did get back in time for the big game…. but we didn’t even turn it on 🙂
Sounds like a fun weekend!

Watching your shoes float away cannot be a good feeling. Reminds me of the part in the book “Wild” when Cheryl Strayed lost one of her hiking boots over the edge of a canyon. Sounds like you made a good recovery.

I would be so stoked to find gold in a river! I would put it on my resume.

‘Got back in time for The Game, but didn’t even turn it on.’ Loved that. There are probably scores of millions who wished they hadn’t either.

Love your camping blog! My husband and I love the Echo Mountain Hike and he’s led groups up to Mount Wilson and Half Dome.

I don’t do any camping any more ( I got soft and lazy). But a lot of people love it. Those hammock chairs you commented on seem to be really popular, you may like one on your next outing. Thanks for the follow. Happy camping. Scott
