san onofre- view

I have a post relating our wonderful weekend spent at San Onofre with my girlfriends, but I failed to talk about the actual campsite. San Onofre State Beach is located in San Clemente in sunny Southern California north of San Diego. While the trip was fun, I am hesitant to go back for a few reasons. You MUST book reservations way a head of time (like months in advance) because it fills up quick. Now, this campground is located a hop, skip, and jump away from the beach so that explains why it books up fast but again, let me tell you why I wasn’t too much of a fan. Continue reading →

coleman sleeping pad

When I first started camping, it was pretty costly. We had to buy the tent, sleeping bag, stove, backpack, and the list goes on and on. Its safe to say we wanted to get products at a cheap price. We needed a sleeping pad and the cheapest one we found was a Coleman sleeping pad for $30 at Walmart. They claim its self-inflating and holds up al night but you have to blow it up yourself multiple times during the night. You don’t get a good night sleep while using this pad- and a good night’s sleep is super important to me! Continue reading →

campsite review heaton flats cover

Heaton Flats was the campsite that turned me into the camper I am. I went in November 2011. The weather was freezing! I knew nothing about camping! But I fell in love with the tall trees, the stream filled with gold prospectors, and the hike to get to the spot. Continue reading →

scenery makes the trip cover

I love hiking! Its so nice to get outside, away from the iPhone, TV, and all the other distractions in the world and appreciate Mother Nature! But sometimes I keep my head down when I’m hiking because I don’t want to trip or I want to keep up a certain pace, and it makes me miss out on the beautiful scenery around! Next you are out in the great outdoors and you catch yourself starring at the ground, just remember Continue reading →

National Parks closed governement shutdown

I know I’m a few days late with this issue but by no means should this be ignored! On October 1, 2013, the government shutdown 401 National Parks across our country. All park grounds, visitor centers, hotels, campgrounds, and park roads – except for thru ways – are closed. All programs are canceled and permits issued for special events on park grounds nationwide are rescinded. Hikers and campers were given 2 days to vacate the premises- by October 3. With our nation entering fall, this is one of the busiest times of the year for our nation’s parks. The National Park System Continue reading →

hiking the narrows cover

A few weeks ago, we trekked 5 miles into The Narrows, a well-known gold panning spot in the Angeles National Forest back in the San Gabriel mountains. The hike out wasn’t bad. We left at 7:00 AM so the air was still cool, shade in our favor. We arrived around 9:00 AM a little winded but happy to be at our temporary home for the weekend. Coming back was a different story!
