I am a novice road trip planner. I had only planned a road trip once before: last year when we drove from San Diego to Corpus Christie over a 5 day period and that was hard enough! I must have been crazy when I decided to plan an 8-day adventure up the coast California, stopping at 5 campgrounds, one casino and driving a total of 1,500 miles. I quickly admitted I was way in over my head. Planning a road trip is hard and takes… planning! So here are my lessons learned while planning my trip. Continue reading →

We recently took an impromptu trip up to Lake Tahoe. We were planning a road trip and I had never been up to Lake Tahoe- let alone, never planned a road trip. We are the type where we like adventure so we decided to “wing it”. Driving from San Diego to Tahoe is a long drive (about 10 hours) so we made an effort to bring our camping gear and find a place to tent camp overnight to break up the drive. We live in San Diego where there are far more campgrounds open this time of the year so we didn’t think it would be difficult to find a home for the night- boy were we wrong! Everywhere was closed until after at least April for tent camping. When I would call a place to see if they were open, they were shocked we wanted to tent camp in 20 degree weather with a chance of snow- I told you we liked adventure! Continue reading →

san onofre- view

I have a post relating our wonderful weekend spent at San Onofre with my girlfriends, but I failed to talk about the actual campsite. San Onofre State Beach is located in San Clemente in sunny Southern California north of San Diego. While the trip was fun, I am hesitant to go back for a few reasons. You MUST book reservations way a head of time (like months in advance) because it fills up quick. Now, this campground is located a hop, skip, and jump away from the beach so that explains why it books up fast but again, let me tell you why I wasn’t too much of a fan. Continue reading →

The aggressive Rim Fire has been destroying California since August 17 and its not letting up! It is now claimed as the 4th largest fire in California’s history! So far, the Rim Fire has burned 223,000 acres (40,000 acreas was Yosemite). More than 100 structures have been lost and the fire has a containment date on September 20. The hot weather and lightning isn’t helping this fire reach containment either. Right now across the U.S., over 8,000 firefighters are fighting 6 major fires.
