We have gone from backpacking and canoe camping ( Boundary Waters, Algonquin Canoe Park, etc) to car camping with a cooler and camp chairs, to RVing now that we are in our 50s and 60s, but also still do backcountry and canoe camp trips. And still love the solitude of a campground set up in the woods away from all others. Anyway to get outside and enjoy nature is a good thing! So glad you are encouraging people to give “roughing it” a try!

Yes.
Why is hiking in to your camp #6 on the list? It’s way rougher to hike up a mountain with everything you need for the next several days in your backpack than it is to go without a cooler (which you’ll have to do anyway for a backpacking trip).

Because that list is in no particular order 🙂 forgetting the cooler is by far the easiest for me!

As things are what there are nowadays roughing it has a new meaning, so it is all how you look at it, I started in a sleeping bag under a lean too many years ago, but now with age and medical issues that will never happen again, I will take my nice 5th wheel today, but still need to be outdoors for my soul.

my idea of roughing it has changed over the decades…now if I have to walk more than a few steps from my “minivan camper” to find a bathroom or wash my hair in a sink…I’m roughing it! 🙂 Hey, it’s still an adventure, right?
