Panning For Gold Process
We went to Heaton Flats in San Gabriel Canyon to camp and pan for gold. The process is easy- just a lot of labor- and finding the right spot! Here is the process:
- Find a good spot near a river or stream
- Dig down a ways (gold is heavy so it sinks down- won’t be on the top layer)
- Have either a bucket for dirt or place in your pan
- If using a sluice, dump dirt onto sluice (a device used to seperate fine dirt and gold from bigger rocks)
- Dump the remaining contents from sluice into a bucket to pan
- Slowly wash away dirt in your pan
It takes time but it is fun and you can be successful!
Happy panning!
Wow! That’s actually a pretty good amount of color in that pan! Got a bit of gold fever just watching that! Awesome 🙂
