This past weekend we hiked at Stonewall Peak in east San Diego. There was lots of snow on the ground and I’ve never hiked in the snow. I was walking through the snow and when I stepped down, my ankle scrapped along a rock. I know it doesn’t look like much but it hurt! Luckily, I had my handy-dandy first aid kit to take care of my gnarly wound! Be careful when hiking and always be prepared!
Happy Hiking!
Do you guys pitch your tents in snow? If so how do you do it? Is it a case of keep digging until the ground becomes available? I’m asking because I’m doing my first Winter walk soon – hopefully there won’t be snow, but it’s good to know!

I was actually going to do a post on this in a few days! haha! Yes, you dig to the ground and a little bigger than the footprint of your tent. Clear away all snow so it looks like dirt or grass. You also want sleeping mats. If you have just your sleeping bag, that won’t be enough and you WILL get cold! Our friends tried that and had to sleep in the car because their backsides were freezing! Hope this helps!

Cool – thanks for the tips! I’m a wimp, so I always use a sleeping mat! 🙂

Ahh, it’s just a little scratch. 😛 Good idea to always have a first aid kit though, even if you aren’t going to be out for that long. Be Prepared – it’s the boy scout motto. 😀
